Any white regular soldier of the British army; also such soldiers collectively; — said to be fictitious name inserted in the models given to soldiers to guide them in filling out account blanks, etc.

[A Hebraistic expression] — Man-stopping bullet (Mil.), a bullet which will produce a sufficient shock to stop a soldier advancing in a charge; specif., a small-caliber bullet so modified as to expand when striking the human body. Such bullets are chiefly used in wars with savage tribes.
n. Any kind of khaki cloth; hence, a uniform of khaki or, rarely, a soldier clad in khaki. In the United States and British armies khaki or cloth of a very similar color is almost exclusively used for service in the field.
